“Incredible” – Rodgers Hails Forrest as Celtic Legend Nears Record

James Forrest is poised to become the most decorated player in Celtic’s history this weekend, with the long-serving winger set to move onto 26 major honours should the Hoops avoid defeat at Tannadice and secure their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title.

The 33-year-old will surpass club legend Bobby Lennox if Brendan Rodgers’ side get over the line against Dundee United on Saturday, capping off a remarkable period of success in which Forrest has played a key role across three different managerial reigns.

Speaking ahead of the potential title-clinching fixture, Rodgers paid tribute to Forrest’s enduring contribution, both on and off the pitch.

“It’s incredible,” the Celtic boss said to Sky Sports.

“I think anyone who’s been at this club and understands Celtic as a club, they know the pressures that’s here.

“They know the expectations that’s here, especially in the position that he plays. Many wingers can come and go at huge clubs.

“I think it says everything, not just about his ability, but his professionalism.

“As I’ve worked with him in 2016, he’s been absolutely first-class, whether he’s played, whether he’s come off the bench.

“He’s started, obviously, many games.

“But such a huge contribution by James over this real golden period that we’ve had, and it would be absolutely fitting for him that we get the next trophy and he can become, as I said, the leader of those accolades.”

Forrest’s career at Celtic has been marked by a remarkable haul of domestic silverware, and the opportunity to stand alone as the club’s most decorated player reflects his dedication and quality throughout a trophy-laden era.

He could be set to add a sixth treble to his Celtic career, too. The Hoops are a cup final away from securing yet another clean sweep. After defeating St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup semi final at the weekend, Aberdeen lie in wait for the Hoops at the end of May, a side that almost caused Brendan Rodgers some bother in last year’s successful Scottish Cup run.
