BRENDAN ROGERS has confirmed one starter for his League Cup Final team already and to use an ice hockey saying, he’s pulling the goalie!
The Celtic manager has confirmed he will stick with Scott Bain in goals this Sunday with the second string goalkeeper playing all previous rounds to this point.
This is a huge gamble by Rodgers who has had Craig in goals for all four cup final wins to this point and the keeper has come up with some big saves.
It shows how much faith the Irishman has got in his number 2.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Rodgers said: Scott plays on Sunday. I have no qualms about that. He is a fantastic keeper.
“The biggest test you have as a Celtic player is playing away at Ibrox, where Scott made his debut for us.
“He will be able to deal with it. Every time he has played, he has been first-class.
“Craig understands and it is something that we spoke about at the start of the season.
“He knew that if I was bringing in a No 2 goalkeeper that I’d want him to have some involvement in the cup competitions so it’s worked out well.
“He is very supportive, Craig. He is a brilliant goalkeeper but he is very mature in his outlook.
“He recognises the importance of him doing well and that he also needs a No 2 who is performing to a good level as well.
Celtic face Aberdeen this Sunday in the League Cup Final where Brendan Rodgers looks to make it seven domestic trophies out of seven.
But first up, Celtic have a massive game in Norway which will have a massive impact on European football past Christmas.
