Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has expressed his excitement at the signing of Swedish international Benjamin Nygren, who joins the club on a five-year deal from FC Nordsjælland.

Speaking after the club confirmed the forward’s arrival, Rodgers said Nygren’s profile and potential made him a strong fit for the club’s ambitions domestically and in Europe.
Rodgers told Celtic’s website: “We’re delighted to have brought Benjamin to Celtic, and we’re all looking forward to working with him. He’s an exciting, quality player who will add to our attacking options in the squad.
“He’s a young player who’s already gained plenty of experience at club level, while his impressive performances last season also saw him gain his first caps for Sweden.
“Joining Celtic is the next step up in his career, and having spoken to him, he’s delighted to be here and is ready to take on the exciting challenges ahead at home and in Europe.
“He’s a player that I’m sure our supporters will enjoy watching and it’s great to have him as part of our squad.”
The 23-year-old scored 15 goals last season and made headlines with a Europa Conference League hat-trick.
Nygren is expected to join up with the team ahead of a packed pre-season schedule, with friendly matches and Champions League qualifiers on the horizon.
Benjamin Nygren’s arrival adds to the growing excitement around Celtic’s pre-season preparations.
Celtic are set to kick off their pre-season fixtures on July 4th with a trip to face Queen’s Park, followed by a friendly in Ireland against Cork City on July 8th. A behind-closed-doors game against Estrela da Amadora is planned for July 12th, before the Hoops head to Portugal to face Sporting CP on July 16th.
A glamour tie at Parkhead against Newcastle United follows on July 19th, though that one won’t be available to viewers in the UK or Ireland. Ajax then visit Glasgow on July 24th, with Celtic rounding off their preparations with a match against Como or Al Ahli on July 26th or 27th.
These games will give Rodgers the opportunity to shape his side ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in August, with Nygren expected to feature heavily as the squad builds sharpness and cohesion. With more signings likely to follow, it’s shaping up to be an exciting summer for the Scottish champions.
