Brendan Rodgers has spoken out on Adam Idah’s impending move to Swansea and explained why the striker was left out of the Celtic squad for the clash against Rangers at Ibrox this afternoon.
However, Rodgers confirmed the transfer discussions were ongoing and that the forward would not feature.
The Irishman has been a key figure in big games against Rangers, scoring important goals since joining Celtic on loan from Norwich. His absence today leaves Rodgers relying on the rest of his squad to step up in one of the biggest fixtures of the season.
Speaking before kick-off, Rodgers gave a clear update on Idah’s situation and why the striker wasn’t part of the travelling squad.
He said: (Sky Sports), “It’s still ongoing. It’s obviously the club in talks with Swansea, so obviously not available today, and yeah, that’s the current situation.”
“No, I think availability of players that are good players, you always want that, but clearly it’s very close, so it’s not quite there yet. So we have to do without him.”
“Adam’s scored big goals in games against Rangers, but he’s not here, so we have to focus on the players that are here.”
Rodgers’ comments show Idah’s move is nearly done, but not finished in time for him to play at Ibrox. With talks advancing, Celtic now look ready to plan without the striker.
The timing could not be worse, as Idah’s past goals against Rangers made him a possible match-winner in such an important game. Without him, Rodgers must depend on the other forwards to step up.

For fans, it’s another blow in a transfer window that has already caused plenty of anger. Watching a player who has made an impact in derby games left out on match day only deepens those worries.
In the end, Rodgers has been clear Celtic must focus on those still here. Idah’s future seems certain to be in Wales, and Celtic must find answers within the squad until new signings arrive.
