The Herald have provided an update on Celtic’s pursuit of Yan Couto from Manchester City by confirming the player attended the Hoops Thursday night Europa League tie at Celtic Park.
It had previously been reported that Celtic were keen on the Brazilian who was on loan at Spanish side Girona last season, and now things look a little more promising.
A number of other European clubs have been considering snapping up the 19-year-old on loan, but Yan Couto was in attendance at Celtic Park to watch their Europa League tie against Jablonec, seemingly seeing Celtic as the best destination for his development.
The Bhoys have been linked with Royal Antwerp’s Aurelio Buta and Legia Warsaw’s Josip Juranovic also this window, but they appear to have gotten further down the line with Couto.
The 19-year-old would be the cheaper option on loan, and could do for the season with Anthony Ralston as his backup. Many fans had written off the Scot but impressive performances this season have launched him into contention to make that right-back role his own this season.
Celtic can’t wait too long on the Brazilian as Buta has interest from Everton and Juranovic from Fiorentina and Spartak Moscow so they have to act swiftly and his presence at Celtic Park confirms his interest in joining the club for the season.
