‘Ridiculous’ – Ross McCormack Shocked by Rangers Fans’ Celtic Cup Final Mentality

Former Rangers striker Ross McCormack thinks his old side have a better chance of beating Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League this evening than they do defeating Celtic on Sunday.

He is also shocked at the mentality of several Gers supporters going into the Premier Sports Cup Final.

The first piece of major silverware in the Scottish football season is up for grabs this weekend.

The Ibrox side have won four games on the bounce, but they still have one to go before Sunday: tonight against Spurs.

Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou leads the English Premier League outfit to Ibrox this evening, although McCormack thinks Rangers have a higher likelihood of beating his team than they do Celtic on Sunday.

He is also shocked at the mindset of several Rangers fans heading into the match: “I think there is a bigger chance that they (Rangers) beat Spurs than they go and win the cup final,” he said (Clyde 1 Superscoreboard).

But it’s a one-off game, the cup final.

“I mean, I’ve never known so many Rangers fans going to a derby game in my life and be thinking they’re going to turn us over. It’s ridiculous; it doesn’t work like that.

It’s a derby game. Celtic have still got to turn up. If they don’t turn up, Rangers will beat them. Make no mistake about that.”

Although McCormack previously played for Rangers, he is, of course, a Celtic fan, and it is difficult to disagree with his verdict here.

Postecoglou’s Spurs are inherently inconsistent, and when the pressure is off them in Europe, Rangers seem to perform better.

Sunday will be a completely different dynamic, however. Brendan Rodgers has only ever lost one Glasgow derby and will have his players fully motivated to win back the Premier Sports Cup.

It is a potentially season-defining game for both sides, in which the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Kick-off is at 3.30pm, with the Hoops eager to take one step towards a treble.
