Returning Celtic Loanees Who Don’t Seem To Have A Future At The Club

Each year, Celtic send several players out on loan.

The majority of the time, these assets come back and have no futures at the club.

The likes of Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie are exceptions and this year, it appears there are numerous men who will do the opposite of what these players done.

Albian Ajeti spent the 2022/23 campaign at Sturm Graz in Austria and was ravaged by injury.

With a year still left on his deal, Celtic will be hoping to move him on this summer in order to generate some cash.

In the same boat as Ajeti is Ismaila Soro. The Ivorian was on loan at Arouca in Portugal but the club don’t look like they want to sign him permanently.

A move to Panathanikos in Greece recently fell through and Soro still has one year left on his Celtic contract thus similarly to Ajeti, the club will be eager to move him on this summer as he doesn’t look part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

Osaze Urhoghide has been on loan at KV Oostende for the past 18 months. The Belgian side have yet to express an interest in purchasing him permanently.

With two years left on his deal at Celtic, it remains to be seen what will happen with the 23 year old.

He has never seemed good enough to make the grade at Celtic and a permanent move away or another loan deal could be likely for him this summer.

Liam Shaw was signed at the same time as Urhoghide and spent 2022/23 on loan at Morecambe.

Similarly to the defender, Shaw’s future looks like it lies away from Glasgow despite him having two years remaining on his contract.

Finally, we have Mikey Johnston. Over the past year, he has been in Portugal with Vitoria Guimaraes.

He scored three goals and assisted five in all competitions for the club but is now back with Celtic.

Rodgers initially brought the young winger through therefore it will be intriguing to see what he does with Johnston.

This seems like one of the only ones that is up in the air as Ajeti, Soro, Urhoghide and Shaw’s futures certainly don’t look like they’ll be at Celtic.
