English Premier League side Southampton are reportedly lining up a move for Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie and are willing to wait to get the 26-year old on a free transfer.
According to Sun Sport, the attacking midfielder’s deal is set to expire at the end of this year, and Southampton could look to take advantage of that.
The report also states that the St Mary’s side could look to make a move late in the summer window, depending on the future of former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong. Whilst Burnley are also mentioned as a possible side who are looking to target Christie.
At this stage, the Scotland internationalist could speak to clubs and agree to a pre-contract arrangement away from Parkhead in January.
However, it is thought that Christie is not keen on this idea due to the possibility of him losing his place in the side under Ange Postecoglou.
With the midfielders recent upturn in form, many fans have been hoping that the club will agree to new terms with Christie as he appears to be enjoying life under the former Socceroos manager.
It remains to be seen what the near future holds for Christie in Glasgow. Fingers crossed, he agrees to a new deal with the Hoops, and we see him back to form regularly once again.
