Reported Carl Starfelt Transfer Fee

The ongoing transfer story involving Carl Starfelt is nearing its end, with reports now emerging about the final transfer fee. Spanish publication Relevo suggests that the deal between Celtic and La Liga’s Celta Vigo is on course to conclude at just under €5 million.

Considering Starfelt’s eagerness to test himself in one of the world’s top five leagues, this figure could be viewed as a fair outcome for Celtic. Given Starfelt’s resolve to move his career on, coupled with his partner Jacynta’s recent switch to Sporting Lisbon, retaining the Swedish centre-half may have posed a significant challenge for the Scottish champions. The deal allows Celtic to capitalise on a player keen to depart, whilst paving the way for new talent.

However, there could be an argument that the rumoured €5 million fee doesn’t reflect Starfelt’s substantial contribution to Celtic over the past two seasons. His instrumental role in securing five pieces of silverware for the Hoops highlights his talent, tenacity and defensive acumen. You could suggest that Celtic might have sought a more substantial sum, taking into account Starfelt’s experience and talent.

Regardless, Celtic appears to have planned adequately for the Swede’s impending exit, having brought in the promising defender Nawrocki earlier in the summer. Nawrocki’s performance in the league opener against Ross County was commendable, suggesting that the Celtic backline will continue to be solid.

In essence, the financial aspect of this deal is a delicate balancing act, taking into account Starfelt’s desires, his contributions on the pitch and the club’s strategic foresight.

While some may view the fee as a tad scant, others may see it as a suitable result for a player ready for a fresh challenge.

Is a fee around €5m fair?
