Reported Celtic Target Backed to Replace Forster

Kilmarnock goalkeeping coach Billy Thompson has backed Freddie Woodman join Celtic this summer as the replacement to Fraser Forster.

The current Newcastle player, had a successful loan spell at Swansea City last season. Some may remember him from his time in Scotland with both Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.

Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Thompson thinks Woodman would ‘thrive’ at Celtic

“If Celtic do come in for him, then I think that Freddie has the temperament to handle it. You need to have a strong mentality, and Freddie has that, no doubt about it.

He was a talented boy. His kicking was good, his distribution and his handling too. He had a real enthusiasm for the game, and you could tell that he really wanted to make it.

Celtic are in desperate need of a new number 1 as it is looking increasingly unlikely that Fraser Forster will be returning to the club.

So could Celtic be going back to Newcastle, the club where the once picked up a young Fraser Forster, to find his replacement?

Freddie Woodman definitely looks like a capable candidate, who has been rated highly by both the Magpies and the England set up, being a regular in their under 21 squad.
