Report: Zagreb Close In on Greg Taylor Move

Dinamo Zagreb have reportedly ramped up their interest in Celtic left-back Greg Taylor, with reports from RecordSport suggesting the Croatian side are confident of signing him on a free transfer this summer. Fabio Cannavaro’s team have been keen on the Scotland international for some time, and it appears they are now stepping up their pursuit.

Taylor, whose contract with Celtic runs out at the end of the season, is at a crossroads in his career. While Brendan Rodgers has praised his consistency and contribution to the team, the club has yet to agree on a new deal, with Rodgers admitting for the first time that it appears likely Taylor will leave, with Kieran Tierney set to rejoin Celtic in the summer.

The 27-year-old has been a reliable presence in Celtic’s backline since arriving from Kilmarnock in 2019. Over the years, he has grown into an important player, particularly under Ange Postecoglou’s system, where he thrived in an inverted full-back role. However, despite Rodgers’ best efforts in press conferences, Taylor has yet to sign a new contract, with the Irishman a huge fan of the left-back.

Dinamo Zagreb, who have been tracking Taylor for months, are believed to be increasingly confident that he will make the move to Croatia. Cannavaro, a World Cup-winning defender himself, is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of another potential Champions League campaign, and Taylor’s experience in Europe could be a valuable addition. A move to Dinamo would also give Taylor the opportunity to test himself in a new league and play in Europe’s top competition once again.

For Celtic, allowing a first-choice full-back to leave for free would be an interesting decision; however, Tierney joining has undoubtedly meant the Hoops were more willing to let Taylor leave for free had Tierney not penned a pre-contract.

As the season nears the business end, Celtic supporters will be keeping a close eye on how this situation develops. If Taylor does move on, he will leave behind a mixed legacy—never the most celebrated name in the squad, but a player who gave his all every time he pulled on the Hoops jersey.
