Report: West Ham Lead Race To Sign Irish Striker

Celtic-linked striker Evan Ferguson is reportedly set to snub the Hoops in favour of staying in the English Premier League this month, despite falling out of favour at Brighton this season.

Ferguson had been linked with a return to Celtic, having previously spent time at the Hoops on trial before joining Brighton in January 2021 from Bohemians.

However, the Irish striker has a number of admirers in the English Premier League.

With 12 league appearances and just two starts this season, he has struggled for game time.

At 20, he has a future at Brighton, but for the time being, a loan spell away from the Amex appears to be the solution for both parties.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler is said to be delighted with the progress of Facundo Buonanotte, who is on loan at Leicester City this season.

The Argentine midfielder has netted four goals and provided two assists in 20 league appearances. His success at the Foxes is seen as something Ferguson could replicate at another Premier League side.

Hurzeler previously stated earlier this month: (Daily Record), “This decision should be what is best for the player and for the club. We went Buonanotte, for example, to Leicester. We know that the Premier League is a very good league to improve, because it’s tough, it’s intense, especially for young players. It’s the perfect environment to adapt.

“In the end, they want to play for Brighton, and we want them to play for Brighton. So, when they improve in the environment of the league where we are also playing, it’s always very helpful. So, that’s why I am not thinking about making the other teams better; it’s more about what is best for the player.”

The Daily Mail report that Ferguson is desperate to reunite with former Brighton boss Graham Potter, who took over as West Ham manager earlier this month. The Irish striker enjoyed great success under Potter during his time at the club.

With Ferguson appearing set to join a Premier League side on loan this month, it means Celtic will have to turn their attention to another striker, with Kyogo leaving yesterday. The Hoops have been consistently linked to Brøndby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden.
