Report: Sporting Director Makes Claim Over Celtic Bid

The sporting director of Ruben Kazan, Carl Starfelt’s former club, has admitted the club did not intend to sell the central defender in the summer window, but a bid from Celtic changed their mind. It’s unusual to read a report where Celtic have managed to sway a club’s mind when it relates to selling a player, but there’s a first for everything.

After signing for Ruben Kazan for just £800,000, Celtic’s offer of £4 million saw Carl Starfelt embark on a new challenge in Scotland. After making a profit on the Swedish international, Oleg Yarovinsky (The Russian Club’s Sporting Director) admitted to Gazeta that the club did not plan to sell the defender;

“There was a proposal for Karl Starfelt, who we didn’t initially plan to sell, but we received an offer that was good for both Karl and us, so we accepted it.”

On Saturday, Starfelt played in his new defensive partnership with the deadline day’s signing Carter-Vickers. The pair looked defensively solid. Heading into Thursday’s Europa League tie there is nothing to suggest that either of the two will be dropped in Seville.
