Reports suggest Celtic are set to collect around £4.3 million following Oh Hyeon-gyu’s impending move to Stuttgart.
The fee Stuttgart are paying is believed to be in the region of £24 million, and the size of Celtic’s cut depends on the exact terms of the agreement struck with Genk.
If the sell-on clause was a percentage of the full transfer fee, Celtic’s £4.3m would represent roughly 18 per cent of the total deal. While possible, it is rare in modern football for clubs to negotiate clauses based on the entire fee rather than the profit a buying club makes.

A more likely explanation is that Celtic secured a percentage of Genk’s profit. The Belgian club paid between £2.5m and £4.5m for Oh last summer. Selling him now for £24m leaves a profit margin of between £19.5m and £21.5m. A 20 per cent cut of that figure works out at around £4.3m, which neatly matches the reported sum.

Most sell-on clauses today are profit-based, and the numbers suggest Celtic’s deal with Genk followed that trend. If so, the Parkhead board’s negotiation has paid off, turning a short spell in Belgium for Oh into another lucrative return for Celtic.
Oh’s development since leaving Glasgow has been rapid, and while his time at Celtic Park was brief, his career path is still delivering financial rewards in the East End of Glasgow.
