Report: Luis Palma Could Smash Polish Transfer Record

Celtic winger Luis Palma is set to join Polish champions Lech Poznań on loan, with an option to buy included in the deal.

The fee for a permanent move is set at €4.5 million, according to journalist Sebastian Staszewski, who reports that the agreement between the clubs is now in place.

Palma signed for Celtic in the summer of 2023 but struggled to hold down a regular place in Brendan Rodgers’ side. Palma was sent out on loan to Olympiacos in January. He spent the second half of the campaign in Greece but has now returned to Celtic Park ahead of another move.

Lech Poznań see Palma as a big addition to their squad. If they decide to make the move permanent, the €4.5 million fee would break the Polish league’s transfer record. The current record is €3 million, paid by Legia Warsaw for Mileta Rajović from Watford.

Staszewski reports that Lech consider Palma a “high level” player and believe he can make a real impact in their push for another league title and success in Europe. The club is ready to spend big if he proves himself.

From Celtic’s side, this is a smart move. It gives Palma the chance to play regular football again and possibly increase his value. If Lech trigger the buy clause, Celtic will make a decent return on a player who hasn’t made a consistent impact in Glasgow.

The move also gives Brendan Rodgers more room in the squad as he continues to build for the season ahead. Palma now has the chance to impress in Poland and potentially earn a permanent switch.

If things go well, Lech Poznań could end up breaking the Ekstraklasa transfer record to sign him. The pressure is now on Palma to deliver.
