Report: Kyogo Linked with Shock Championship Move

Kyogo reportedly could be set to link up with former Celtic coach Chris Davies at Birmingham City in a move that would mark a return to British football for the Japanese striker.

Japanese news outlet Sponichi Annex report that the 30-year-old is “likely” to sign for the Championship side this summer, just six months after leaving Celtic for Rennes.

Kyogo’s time in France hasn’t gone to plan. Rennes paid £10 million to bring him in during the January window, but after just six appearances in Ligue 1, the striker is already eyeing a move away in search of regular football. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, game time is a key factor.

Davies, who served as Brendan Rodgers’ assistant at Celtic during Rodgers’ first spell in charge, has connections at the club, having signed Tomoki Iwata last summer. It would mean a familiar face in the dressing room for Kyogo. Their existing relationship could now be pivotal as Birmingham gear up for life back in the Championship after a dominant League One campaign.

Kyogo became a fan favourite at the Hoops, scoring 85 goals in 165 games across all competitions. He delivered consistently in big moments, particularly in cup finals, and helped fire Celtic to multiple trophies under both Ange Postecoglou and Rodgers.

His movement, pressing, and composure in front of goal made him a standout player in Scottish football.

While a deal has yet to be officially confirmed, the move appears to be progressing. Birmingham are ambitious under Davies, and the addition of a proven goalscorer like Kyogo would highlight their intent.
