Report: January Celtic Exit for Ange Postecoglou Signing

After a year and a half of failing to nail down a consistent starting berth in the Celtic team, left-back Alexandro Bernabei could be set to depart the club. According to The Scottish Sun, there is interest from Italy and Argentina in the 24-year-old.

Bernabei signed from Lanus in his homeland for around £3.7 million (Transfermarkt) in the summer of 2022. Since then, however, he has made just 23 appearances in green and white.

When he has played, Bernabei has always seemed rather raw. Under Brendan Rodgers, he has managed just 71 minutes of football.

The Argentine came off the bench against Hearts at the weekend as the manager looked to bring some natural width to the team, although such a move didn’t work out as The Bhoys fell to their first defeat at home to Hearts since 2009.

Rodgers doesn’t seem to fancy Bernabei, and it is said he will have no shortage of options. He possesses an Italian passport and would be keen on a move to the European nation.

Getting a player who is currently deadwood off the books next month will be positive for Celtic, although Bernabei’s departure reinforces the need for a new left-back to come in the door.

He has failed to push Greg Taylor in his time at Celtic, and his sale after just 18 months at the club is a sad indictment of the poor recruitment that has existed in Glasgow’s east end for some while.
