Former Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist has made the move to Romania, joining Rapid Bucharest. He has started 13 league games, keeping 15 clean sheets, despite Neil Lennon’s sacking in August.
Lennon, who signed Siegrist in July on a two-year deal with an option for a further year, saw the Swiss shot-stopper prove a success over the last six months. However, he has been unable to play in the Romanian league recently due to a muscular issue suffered in November. Despite this, Siegrist is reportedly set for a huge move away this month.

That’s because The Daily Record reports that he is on the verge of joining Serie A side Genoa.
Genoa currently sit 12th in Serie A, with Pierluigi Gollini’s loan deal ending earlier this month after Nicola Leali established himself as the number one goalkeeper this season. Head coach Patrick Vieira is in the market for a backup, with Siegrist likely to start as second choice and potentially challenge Leali for a place in the team.
It’s quite the turnaround for Siegrist in six months, given his underwhelming time at Celtic, where he made only two competitive appearances.

It shows that, despite being unable to displace Joe Hart during his two years in Glasgow, he is by no means a bad goalkeeper, having impressed before joining Celtic in 2022 from Dundee United.
