Report: Fenerbahce Accelerate Move for Daizen Maeda

Fenerbahce are reportedly getting ready to make a move for Celtic forward Daizen Maeda. Reports from Turkey say the club, managed by Jose Mourinho, will offer more than €10 million (£8.5 million) for the Japanese star.

Talks are reportedly set to take place soon, with Maeda’s agent present and a bid expected to be made to Celtic. Maeda had a brilliant season for the Hoops after Kyogo left for Rennes in January.

Brendan Rodgers moved Maeda into the striker role following Kyogo’s departure, and he responded in style—scoring 33 goals in 51 games across all competitions. His hard work, pace, and sharp finishing made him one of Celtic’s top players.

Maeda also picked up several player of the year awards after his outstanding season. Now, with the season over, it’s no surprise clubs are interested in signing him.

Fotomac report that Fenerbahce have made Maeda a key target for their summer plans. The club are reportedly sending representatives to speak to Maeda’s agent. They also are said to  present a formal offer to Celtic for the 27-year-old.

Celtic’s current other forward options include Adam Idah, Johnny Kenny, but Maeda has clearly been the standout. Losing him would be a big blow, especially with Kyogo already gone.

Celtic will now have to decide whether to accept the money or keep one of their best players. Fans will hope the club push to hold on to Maeda, but the next few weeks will be telling.
