The Northern Irishman, who previously led Celtic to multiple domestic triumphs between 2016 and 2019, is expected to be announced as the successor to Ange Postecoglou, who recently departed for Tottenham Hotspur.

According to he Daily Mail, Celtic conducted a thorough search for their new manager, speaking to a number of potential candidates including Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town, the unattached Daniel Farke, Manchester City’s assistant coach Enzo Maresca, and highly-rated Italian Francesco Farioli. However, it appears that Rodgers was always the club’s first choice.

After the Eddie Howe fiasco in 2021, it’s good to see that the club have learned from their mistake, and instead of putting all their eggs into one basket, they’ve kept their options open just in case of a late U-turn.

Rodgers left Celtic in 2019 to take up the managerial role at Leicester City, where he achieved two 5th-placed and an 8th-placed finishes and led the club to their first FA Cup and Community Shield victories. His departure from Leicester followed a period of poor performance, attributed to a lack of investment in the squad.

The imminent announcement of Rodgers’ return to Celtic is likely to be met with mixed reactions from fans, some of whom have not forgotten the circumstances of his departure in 2019. However, there is no denying Rodgers’ managerial prowess and his potential to lead Celtic to further success.

This appointment signifies a crucial moment for Celtic as they look to build on their domestic success and make a significant impact in European competitions. With Rodgers at the helm, the club is poised for an exciting new chapter.
