Louis Munteanu’s future reportedly looks destined for the Spanish game, with Romania’s U23 coach, Marius Niculae, revealing the young striker has made it clear he fancies a move to La Liga even as Celtic show interest.
Munteanu, who previously spent time in Italy, appears to feel that a return to that environment isn’t the right step for his next career chapter.
According to Niculae, the forward’s ambition and style of play align better with the Spanish way of football, and he’s openly admitted that Spain remains his preferred destination.
He said: (digisport.ro), “I spent a lot of time with him this summer and talked a lot. I like him a lot, I bet on him to be the next striker for the national team.
“He is a player who has great qualities. He was also a little stressed, even if he didn’t show it. He says he is preparing, but your mind wanders to other areas as well.
“I see him in Spain, it suits him best. He wants this too, also in Spain, from the discussions we had. I think it would suit him best, not Italy where he has been before or somewhere else, in a tougher championship.”
Munteanu’s clear interest in a move to La Liga puts a dent in any hopes Celtic had of bringing him to Glasgow. The Romanian striker looks to prefer the technical and tactical side of Spanish football over the more physical style found in Scotland.
After a spell in Italy, it makes sense that he’s now aiming for a league that might suit his game better. Spain’s focus on movement, positioning, and open play could give him the right stage to grow both at club level and with the national team.
Valencia’s reported interest backs that up and offers a real chance for the 23-year-old to step into top-level football. It could be a big step forward in his push to become a key figure for Romania.

If Spain is where he sees his future, Celtic may have to move on. Chasing players who are fully committed to the idea of playing in Glasgow would likely be a better use of time and resources.
Still, football is full of twists, and if the move to Spain doesn’t happen, Celtic could remain an option. But as things stand, Munteanu’s attention is fixed on La Liga, and nowhere near Celtic Park.
