Celtic are stepping up their interest in highly-rated Serbian midfielder Andrej Bačanin, with the 18-year-old drawing attention from a number of European clubs including Rangers.

Journalist Barry Anderson has reported that both Celtic and Rangers have made contact over a possible deal, with Dutch giants Ajax and Serie A side Udinese also keen.
Čukarički are believed to be looking for around €3 million, though reports suggest they could be willing to accept €2.5 million, roughly £2.17 million, to get a deal done.

The Hoops have been reportedly monitoring Bačanin closely this summer, with comparisons being drawn between him and Motherwell’s Lennon Miller.
While Miller remains one of the most promising young players in the Scottish Premiership, Bačanin offers a similar skillset at a fraction of the price.

Celtic’s recruitment team have clearly identified the need to strengthen the midfield area with long-term options. The potential signing of Bačanin fits the club’s model of targeting emerging talent that can be developed and, if successful, command a higher value in future.
The fact that Ajax and Udinese are also circling underlines the level of talent Bačanin possesses. But Celtic may feel they’re well positioned in the race, particularly if they can offer the player a clearer pathway to first-team football and European exposure.
With Čukarički confirming interest from both Glasgow clubs, the ball is now in Celtic’s court to move decisively. The player has already been left out of recent squads, a clear signal that an exit is imminent.
A swift move from Parkhead could secure a highly-rated prospect and land an early blow in the Glasgow Derby transfer battle
