Celtic are reportedly on the verge of landing promising Greenock Morton defender Isaac English in a move that signals continued investment in youth development at the club.
The 17-year-old has been on the radar of the Hoops after a string of standout performances for Morton’s under-18 side. English played a key role as the Cappielow youngsters clinched the Club Academy Scotland Performance League title, catching the eye of talent spotters across the country.

According to SunSport, the Hoops are close to agreeing a deal worth around £50,000 for the teenage centre-back. Though he is yet to make a senior appearance for Morton, English has been training with Dougie Imrie’s first-team squad, gaining valuable experience at a higher level.
The move comes as part of a broader strategy from Celtic to bolster their development ranks with some of the best emerging talent in the Scottish game. With the B team playing a regular part in the Lowland League and a clear pathway for prospects to step up, the club continues to position itself as a destination for young players seeking first-team opportunities.

Dougie Imrie’s decision to include English in senior training highlights the youngster’s potential. His performances at under-18 level were clearly a cut above, and it’s understood that Celtic’s recruitment team were quick to act once they identified his potential.
Should the deal go through, English would be expected to join the academy setup initially, where he will look to make his mark and earn further opportunities within the club’s development structure. The move would mirror Celtic’s approach in recent years, investing in high-potential talent before integrating them into the first team environment.
