Report: Celtic Open Talks With Danish Transfer Target

Celtic have reportedly began talks with Brøndby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden, with the Hoops desperate to replace Kyogo Furuhashi, who departed on Monday for Rennes.

Kyogo departed for the Ligue 1 side in a deal worth a reported £10 million, having joined Celtic for £4.5 million in 2021. The Hoops have therefore made more than double what they paid for the 30-year-old striker.

Kvistgaarden, at 22 years old, is a striker for both the present and the future. With 10 goals and 4 assists in 15 league appearances for Brøndby, he has shown a strong ability to score goals in his homeland.

However, Brøndby are said to be holding firm, with the Danish club reportedly demanding a staggering £14 million for the striker. They don’t want to sell him this month, but with the Hoops, RB Leipzig, and Eintracht Frankfurt said to be circling, Celtic will likely have to break their club record transfer fee of £11 million, which they paid Augsburg for Arne Engels in the summer.

Danish publication Bold report that talks have begun between Celtic and Kvistgaarden’s representatives. However, the report does not reveal whether talks between the Hoops and Brøndby are underway.

For Celtic supporters, it is an anxious wait to see if the Hoops will get a striker in before the end of the window.

Rodgers has been consistent in maintaining that he wants to sign a striker this month, and although the Irishman is happy with Daizen Maeda’s appearances up top, he does not want to rely on him as a striker going into next month’s Champions League playoffs.
