Brendan Rodgers remains on the hunt to strengthen Celtic’s midfield with a week remaining in the transfer window.

The Hoops are in desperate need of reinforcements across the pitch, but with Matt O’Riley’s seemingly impending move to Brighton and Hove Albion, the engine room sticks out as a key area.

Names such as Mateusz Bogusz and Arne Engels have been linked, the latest being Mahamadou Diawara.

According to a report on X from journalist Nabil Djellit, the 19-year-old has an offer to come to Celtic, but it remains to be seen whether it would be on loan or a permanent basis. Other clubs in French Ligue 1 such as Nantes and Lens are also interested in the player’s services.

A product of the PSG academy, Diawara moved to Lyon on a free transfer last summer. He has since struggled for game time at the Groupama Stadium, playing just 13 times across all competitions.

With Champions League football, Celtic could offer the France under-19 international a route out.

Diawara, however, doesn’t have considerable first-team experience, which could be a concern.

Despite this, the Hoops have a positive track record with French players in recent times such as Odsonne Edouard, Moussa Dembele, Chris Jullien, and arguably Olivier Ntcham. If Diawara does move to Glasgow, fans will hope he can live up to, and potentially exceed the expectations set by his predecessors.
