Report: Celtic-Linked Striker Snubs Hoops for Eredivisie Move

Youssef El Kachati will not reportedly not be heading to Celtic this summer, despite previous suggestions the Hoops had eyes on the Dutch-Moroccan forward. The 25-year-old has reportedly opted for a move to NEC Nijmegen after firing Telstar into the Eredivisie via the play-offs.

Following his side’s promotion win against Willem II, El Kachati previously hinted at an upcoming transfer, describing it as a “fantastic step” in his career. It now appears that step will be taken in the Eredivisie, but not with his current club Telstar, with El Kachati reportedly set to join Telstar’s new Dutch Rivals.

According to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, NEC Nijmegen have edged out several competitors to secure his signature. The mid-table Eredivisie side, who finished eighth last term, are said to have offered the forward a three-year deal. Although a medical is still pending, the move looks close to completion.

While Celtic weren’t named directly among the frontrunners, Hannover 96, Schalke 04, and Qatari outfit Umm-Salal were all reportedly interested, it was previously reported that scouts from the Hoops were in attendance for one of El Kachati’s recent games, suggesting at least some interest from Celtic.

El Kachati’s versatility across the frontline, comfortable both through the middle and out wide, would have added depth to a Celtic squad that includes Daizen Maeda, Adam Idah, and Johnny Kenny in central roles. However, with Celtic still yet to sign a replacement for Kyogo, it appears that won’t be El Kachati.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will now continue their search for additional firepower. With Champions League qualifiers on the horizon in August, the Hoops need to bring in a new striker, especially with Daizen Maeda consistently linked with a move away.
