Celtic are reportedly preparing a summer bid for Guingamp’s towering midfielder Kalidou Sidibe, as Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. The 6ft 6ins powerhouse has been a key figure for the French Ligue 2 side this season, catching the eye of clubs across Europe.

A Powerful Midfield Presence
Sidibe has been a mainstay in Guingamp’s midfield during their push for promotion, featuring in 31 matches and contributing two goals. His physicality and defensive awareness have made him a standout performer, while his versatility allows him to operate both in midfield and as a central defender.
The 26-year-old, who came through Paris Saint-Germain’s academy, is also on the verge of an international call-up for Mali, the country of his parents’ birth. His rising profile has sparked interest from clubs outside France, with Celtic reportedly among the frontrunners for his signature.
Rodgers Seeks a Jeffrey Schlupp Replacement
With on-loan Jeffrey Schlupp yet to sign a permanent deal, Sidibe is reportedly believed to be a player Rodgers sees as an ideal replacement. According to African outlet Africa Foot, Celtic have already lined up an initial bid of around £1.7 million as they look to beat other interested clubs to his signature.
Competition from Across Europe
Celtic are not the only side monitoring Sidibe’s situation, with Premier League side Ipswich Town also said to be keen. However, with the Suffolk side struggling to retain their top-flight status, their chances of securing the midfielder may depend on their league position come May.
PSV Eindhoven, Toulouse, and Swiss outfit Grasshoppers are also rumoured to be in the race for Sidibe, making it a competitive transfer battle.

Guingamp’s Promotion Push Could Dictate Sidibe’s Future
Sidibe joined Guingamp from Quevilly-Rouen in 2023 and has 15 months remaining on his contract. The French side currently sits fifth in Ligue 2, trailing leaders Lorient by ten points. If they fail to secure promotion, they may reportedly be forced to sell their star midfielder to balance the books.
Before moving to Guingamp, Sidibe played for Paris FC, Toulouse, Chateauroux, and Quevilly-Rouen, gaining experience across various levels of French football.
With Celtic aiming to strengthen their squad for another domestic and European campaign next season, Sidibe’s physical presence and versatility could make him a valuable addition to Rodgers’ plans. The Hoops will be hoping to secure his signature ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in August, in what can be seen as a signing to learn alongside Callum McGregor in the holding midfield role.
