Celtic have spoken to Patrick Bamford as Brendan Rodgers looks for a new striker before tonight’s Europa League squad deadline. [The Herald]
The 31-year-old left Leeds United by mutual consent last week, ending a seven-year spell at Elland Road. Celtic have now made contact over a possible move, with Bamford a free agent and able to sign after the transfer window shuts.
Rodgers’ need for a forward has become urgent after Adam Idah joined Swansea City for £6 million and Kasper Dolberg chose to return to Ajax. Talks have also taken place over Kelechi Iheanacho, who has just left Sevilla, but time is running out to get any deal finished in time for Europe.
Bamford made 205 appearances and scored 60 goals for Leeds, playing a key role in two Championship title wins.

But last season he barely featured, making 17 appearances without starting a single match, with boss Daniel Farke confirming he was no longer part of the club’s plans.
Celtic must register any new signings by 11pm tonight if they are to be included in the Europa League group stage. Whether Bamford is the answer or one of several late options, Rodgers is under pressure to make sure the team is not left short in attack for the challenges ahead.
