Report: Celtic Boardroom Split

The Celtic rumours surrounding the next manager have become tedious but the same thing happened last time we were looking for our next permanent manager, by the end of it, Jose Mourinho had even got a mention only for Neil Lennon to be swiftly handed the role while the confetti was still flying through the air at Hampden.

The big rumour going around the fan led podcasts and sites has been the potential appointment of Roy Keane. It’s been met with a lot of push back from the support but was the leak of Keane’s potential appointment by design?

John Pauls co-host, Kevin Graham was the man who floated the idea of Keane getting the job along with Nicky Butt and Fergal Harkin in a new setup. On Thursday, Celtic social media was largely against any sort of Roy Keane ensemble. Dykes believes we have a boardroom divided and that’s behind the recent leak.

Any new manager must get boardroom approval and for the members who don’t want Keane, a leak has been put out to ensure the club see the backlash to the potential appointment.

Speaking on Sunday’s ACSOM, Kevin Graham floated the scenario:

“We are getting played, us a fan channel, and other fan outlets with the rumours that are being kicked about and certain leaks to the press.

“It’s extremely clear to me that there’s a split in the boardroom on who they want as the next Celtic manager.

“There’s a side for Keane and a side for anybody but Keane.  For me, looking and knowing where the rumour of where Harkin, Keane and Butt came from, I think it is quite clear that person doesn’t want Roy Keane anywhere near Celtic Football Club, and that’s why it was put out there.”

If that’s the case, whoever leaked got their desired effect.

It seems like a pile on when it comes to Keane. He shouldn’t get the Celtic job but because of recent rumours it has been open season on the Irishman. While he does have his deficiencies, some treating his potential return to Celtic as an apocalyptic moment are going a wee bit too far.

We hope the Celtic board make the right choice for what we need not just next season but three or four seasons down the line.
