Celtic could be forced to step up their move for David Strelec after Ajax entered the race to sign the striker this summer.

Strelec was said to be disappointed that the move didn’t go through, especially as he was enjoying one of the best spells of his career. The 23-year-old scored 25 goals last season and is seen as a rising talent in European football. After the failed deal, he made it clear he was still open to joining Celtic in the future.
However, Dutch side Ajax have now entered the picture. According to a report from Voetbal Primeur, Ajax are “considering” making an official offer and have opened talks with Strelec’s camp to reportedly present their vision for the player. This development puts pressure on Celtic, who may now need to act quickly if they want to bring the striker to Parkhead.
Slovan Bratislava’s top brass have hinted they may now accept a lower fee than they were demanding in January. At that time, they were unwilling to sell without having a replacement lined up, but their stance has softened this window.

Celtic’s need for a new striker has grown after Kyogo’s exit in January, and Strelec fits the profile the club are looking for. But with Ajax now making a serious move, Celtic face a real fight to get the deal over the line.
The next few days could be crucial as both clubs consider whether to meet Slovan’s demands and convince Strelec where his future lies.
