Report: Ajax Close In as Kasper Dolberg Arrives for Medical

Celtic’s hopes of landing Kasper Dolberg are all but over, with journalist Sacha Tavolieri confirming the Danish striker is set to rejoin Ajax.

The Dutch giants have moved swiftly to beat off competition, including from Celtic, and are now finalising a deal to bring the forward back to Amsterdam.

Talks between Ajax and Dolberg’s current club have accelerated throughout deadline day, with an agreement close on a loan arrangement that will include a mandatory purchase option.

The 27-year-old, who previously spent four years at Ajax earlier in his career, is expected to travel to the Netherlands tonight ahead of a medical scheduled for Tuesday morning.

For Celtic, it represents a bitter blow. Brendan Rodgers had targeted Dolberg as a top striking option to replace Adam Idah, who has completed his move to Swansea City.

With the Dane now Amsterdam-bound, Celtic’s attacking plans for the season are left in doubt with hours remaining in the transfer window.

Dolberg’s impending return to Ajax is being described as “soon a done deal,” with the club set to announce his signing once the medical and final paperwork are complete. It leaves Celtic scrambling for alternatives at the sharp end of the market, with supporters growing increasingly concerned at the lack of attacking reinforcements secured during the window.
