Report: Abada Knocks Back Celtic Contract Extension; Parkhead Exit Discussed

The President of Maccabi Petah Tikva, Liel Abada’s former club believes he has the inside scoop on the Celtic winger’s future at the club, and all roads lead to an exit this summer.

Avi Luzon revealed there had been talks around Abada being sold in January, but the player wasn’t in favour of a move during he winter window.

However, Luzon does claim Abada has rejected a new deal with Celtic and is eyeing a summer move to the English Premier League.

Luzon told One Sport: “I believe he will be sold in the summer to the Premier League. There were talks already in the last window, but he didn’t want to be sold.

“They offered him a contract extension and I know he didn’t agree, because he wants to be sold. I don’t know the names of teams, but there are offers and I believe at a probability level of over 90% that he will move to the Premier League in the summer.

Liel

“I hope that he will continue to score goals until the end of the season and then he will be sold for sure.”

We can’t kid ourselves on that this is the end goal for most players who come to Celtic nowadays. The Maccabi Petah Tikva President obviously has his eye on he ball when it comes to Abada with a sell-on fee baked into the player’s deal.

We saw with both Josip Juranovic and Gorgios Giakoumakis, the club isn’t willing to break the bank to keep players here if they’re leveraging a move away.

Abada has been used more as a sub this season than a first team starter, but that shouldn’t feel as hard to take considering the way Ange Postecgolou sets out his sides.

We only have to look back at last weekend to see two of his subs in the Hibernian game proved pivotal to the win.

Abada has been brilliant for Celtic and we have no doubt he will be until he leaves, whether it be this summer or beyond.

Everyone has a price, and Celtic fans know what can happen when you keep players beyond when they’r happy to stay.
