Rennes’ Jota Asking Price – Report

Jota’s future at Rennes remains uncertain, with the former Celtic winger only joining the Ligue 1 side in the summer from Al-Ittihad for a reported €10 million.

Given his special time at Celtic during just two seasons, the Hoops will always be linked with a return for the Portuguese winger.

However, Trabzonspor are looking to sign Jota on loan for the remainder of the Süper Lig season, with a possible obligation to buy after the season ends in Turkey.

The Turkish side’s unwillingness to pay a transfer fee outright for Jota leaves room for Celtic to sign him ahead of a potential place in the Champions League knockout playoffs next month.

Jota

While a move back to Glasgow may seem highly unlikely at the time of writing, Celtic have received a huge boost, with Habererk in Turkey reporting that Jota is available for just £6.7 million, only £0.2 million more than the fee the Hoops paid Benfica when they signed him in the summer of 2022 after a successful loan spell.

Given the chance to make history tomorrow night, with a win against Young Boys likely sealing a place in the Champions League knockout playoffs, it could trigger a bid for Jota in the coming weeks.

The former Celtic winger would add further depth to the squad and could be exactly what the Hoops need to push the team further in the second half of the season, particularly in the Champions League.

It seems like a no-brainer for Celtic, but Jota’s reported current wages at Rennes of £39,031.10 per week could prove a stumbling block.

However, given how Kieran Tierney appears set to return on a huge pay cut, Jota might similarly look to get his career back on track. After a stop-start career since leaving Celtic, a return to Glasgow could help him recover from a disastrous 18 months post-Celtic.
