CHRIS SUTTON has backed Celtic to re-sign Erik Sviatchenko, the Englishman citing he was surprised Celtic let go of him the first time.
Erik has been linked with a move to Celtic this week and CeltsAreHere.com were told by an impeccable source that contact between the two parties had been made but it’s at a very early stage.
Sutton wasn’t overly glowing about Erik but he believes the Dane is a defender who can do a job for the club. Someone who can help steady a shaky defence and help with the rebuild.
Writing in his RecordSport column, Chris said:
“Celtic could be up against former player Erik Sviatchenko – or he could even be back at Parkhead.
“I don’t think it would be the worst move bringing him back to Glasgow. It was a little bit surprising to see him being allowed to go in the first place as he always looked fairly decent in his time in Scotland.
“Don’t get me wrong, he didn’t pull up any trees, but he always seemed to me to be a reliable defender. He’s not the tallest, but he’s got a decent leap, and it would be a big plus when there’s going to be so many changes to be able to recruit a guy who knows what the club and the league is all about.
“Sviatchenko wouldn’t cost the earth and he’s certainly strengthen an area of the team that needs bolstering.”
Celtic signing Erik could be a smart piece of business, someone who knows the club and what’s expected of him. At 29, Erik will be at his best and having won more leagues in Denmark and played in the Champions League, he has to have improved with so much experience.
New Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou claimed to know a lot about Celtic’s next Champions League opponents, he has followed Midtjylland for quite some time due to Awer Mabil, an Australian international being at the Danish club.
