JONNY HAYES could be making a return to Aberdeen next season after being released by Celtic this month. The midfielder was signed from the Dons three years ago and has enjoyed a decent Celtic career. After being told he wouldn’t be getting a new contract with Celtic, the player is free to find another club.
Aberdeen seems the most likely destination for Hayes even though he has been constantly booed by the Aberdeen support since leaving the club.
Dons Chairman Dave Cormack hasn’t been shy in declaring his admiration for the 32-year-old but admits he’s not spoken to Derek McInnes yet about any signing targets.
“Well personally I love Jonny.” Cormack told SunSport. “He’s a wonderful guy and he won’t thank me for saying this but he’s very charitable to some of the people struggling in Aberdeen and he’s said nothing about it.
“We just have to wait and see how we go through the next couple of months and certainly, I haven’t sat down with Derek at all to talk through where we might be with the squad but clearly Jonny that I’m a fan of.
“I love Jonny and the fans do too but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Hayes was a grafter at Celtic and nobody could fault his efforts. In some games he excelled, in others, he looked ordinary.
The talent at Celtic is on another level and even if you’re a good player you can be exposed when there are top stars around you.
Hayes said he was immensely proud of his time at Celtic and so he should be. Under Neil Lennon, he certainly did his part at bringing home nine in a row.
We hope he doesn’t come back to haunt us next season!
