Rangers Fan Pleads Guilty to Celtic Physio Attack

A 33-YEAR-OLD MAN has pleaded guilty to assault after he flung a bottle at the Celtic physio’s head in the Hoops’ 2-1 victory at Ibrox in April last year.

The man, named as Alan Crawford, belonging to the Grangemouth Rangers Supporters Club, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday morning.

The court heard that Mr Crawford was sitting in his Corporate seat in the west enclosure when he threw the missile.

The judge stated that a custodial sentence was at the “forefront of the court’s mind” and a football banning order is likely. The fan has been released on bail and will return in a month for sentencing. [The Sun]

The physio, Daniel Friel, who was sat next to the away dugout at the time of the incident, had to receive four stitches to his head and will be left with a permanent scar.

He was treated by the club’s doctor in the away dressing room.

Celtic ran out 2-1 winners, fighting back from an Aaron Ramsey opener. There’s no place for this kind of thing in the game.
