A man who launched a Buckfast bottle at Celtic goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo during a heated Glasgow Derby at Ibrox has been jailed for eight months.
Andrew Watt, 34, from Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, admitted to the shocking assault which took place on May 4, 2025, during a fiercely contested clash between Rangers and Celtic. The incident unfolded moments after Adam Idah netted a crucial equaliser for the Hoops in front of the Broomloan Road stand.
Watt first hurled a cigarette in Sinisalo’s direction before picking up a half bottle of Buckfast and throwing it at the Finnish goalkeeper, who was celebrating the goal in front of the Rangers support. The bottle narrowly missed Sinisalo and was later retrieved and handed to police by a Rangers substitute.
Watt was identified the next day thanks to CCTV footage and what the court described as his “distinctive white teeth.” He pleaded guilty to assault at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Mark McGuire delivered a damning assessment of Watt’s behaviour, branding him a “vicious drunken hooligan,” and stating: “Your motive was victim blaming. You came to throw a bottle after he celebrated his team scoring an equaliser. That is his job – the man was at his work.”

McGuire warned of the potential consequences, saying the bottle could have caused a career-ending injury or worse. He added that Watt’s actions “could have sparked a riot” in a packed stadium of over 50,000 spectators.
Watt, who has 21 previous convictions including two football-related offences, was also banned from attending any football match for six-and-a-half years. He previously served jail time for a similar offence in 2015.
This latest act of violence at a Ibrox again raises serious questions about crowd control and fan behaviour.
