Celtic midfielder Arne Engels was shockingly struck by a coin at Ibrox in this afternoon’s Glasgow derby.
Rangers ran out rampant 3-0 victors in the match as they punished the Hoops’ embarrassing performance. Ianis Hagi, Robin Propper, and Danilo all scored for the hosts.
If the Bhoys’ performance wasn’t concerning enough, the second half moment in which Engels’ safety was put at risk was even more worrying.
The Belgian went over to take a corner on the far side, and was hit with a missile from the home supporters.

He went down in a heap only to return to his feet a few moments later, looking rather dazed.
Sky Sports co-commentators Neil McCann and Chris Sutton were quick to condemn the incident, and now Rangers Football Club has done the same: “Rangers FC condemns this incident in the strongest possible terms,” said a club spokesperson (Glasgow Times).
“The club can confirm it will assist Police Scotland with their investigation.”
Immediately after the embarrassing incident, referee Don Robertson handed the coin to his fourth official, who, in turn, gave it to a nearby policeman. The object was then put in a clear plastic bag and taken as evidence.
It remains to be seen what repercussions await the guilty individual(s). One thing is for sure: these embarrassing moments must be firmly stamped out of football.
Whether it be throwing a coin at a player or continually singing shameful sectarian songs, the vast majority of Rangers fans embarrassed their club today despite a rare derby victory.
