Pundit’s Embarrassing Celtic Contract Blast – The Real Story

Celtic finally announced Neil Lennon’s successor on Thursday. Ange Postecoglou was confirmed as the new Celtic manager on a 12 month rolling contract.

The contract in question has been picked apart by many and used to beat Ange and the club over the head with in the proceeding days since Thursday.

If you’re a Celtic fan who pays attention, you will know the deal Ange signed was how the club traditionally do business under Dermot Desmond.

Martin O’Neill, Gordon Strachan, Tony Mowbray, Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon again all signed the same 12-month rolling deal. Rodgers was the only manager in that list who would late on sign a longer term deal – which only helped to secure a large fee for him when Leicester came calling.

If you know what you’re talking about then the deal Ange has signed is an absolute non-issue.

This is when we have to call out the ineptitude and farcical nature of the way Football Insider cover Celtic.

They wheel out former players and pundits who don’t know the club very well who throw out sweeping statements in order to make headlines.

Noel Whelan was the man this time around to lambast the club for the contract handed to Ange, not knowing how the club do business. Whelan’s comments also lack the knowledge of what a 12-month rolling contract is.

“It goes to show what a farce it’s been appointing a new manager.

“I think that just says he wasn’t our number one and we can’t get anybody through the door so we’re going to give it a 12-month period. It’s a very disappointing one.

“I don’t think there’s too many Celtic fans out there that are licking their lips and rubbing their hands at the prospect of him being manager. No one kind of knew about him, he’s a bolt out of the blue.

“Yes, he’s done well in Asia with Australia and over in Japan. That’s one thing. I always think that Celtic and a club of their stature demand a bigger name.”

The former player is describing a 12-month contract where the manager’s time at the club dwindles down over the season. In reality, a 12-month rolling deal means the manager and the club wake up every day still having 12-months left on his contract.

It’s something the club uses to avoid massive pay-offs but gives manager’s some security they will get a years wages if they are dismissed.
