Pundit Urges Winger to Snub Celtic

In recent weeks, it has been reported that Celtic have been linked with QPR and Nigerian winger Bright Osayi-Bright.

The 22-year old is thought to be thinking of leaving the London based club, with his contract coming to an end next summer.

Celtic feel they are in a good position to make a deal happen, whether that be on a pre-contract agreement in January or at a cut-priced deal this summer. The card that the Scottish Champions do hold over any of the interested sides, is former QPR head of recruitment Gary Penrice, who is now part of the hoops staff.

However, in an interview with Football Insider, former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, believes that the youngster would turn down any advances from Scotland and decide to join Leeds instead, with the Premier League club also reportedly interested.

“Leeds were after him for a while. They were reportedly considering an offer and a player with his amount of quality, at that age is going to have options.

“Celtic and Rangers might be interested but a lad that is from London, if something comes up in and around him I have no doubt that he would choose that ahead of a move to Scotland, especially if it is an offer from a club in the Premier League.”

The Nigerian winger did start for the Championship side in their 2-0 win in the opening game of the season against Nottingham Forrest.

I don’t feel this move is as simple as choosing to move to Leeds. A club like Celtic could be a huge pull for a player like Osayi-Bright. He has spent some time down south with the likes of Blackpool and QPR as a young player, so he may want to test himself elsewhere, with the chance of playing European football.

Celtic manager, Neil Lennon has stated in the past he would be interested in bringing another winger into the club. But with it looking like his side will be switching to the 3-5-2 formation, there might not be as much need for that sort of player at the moment, but we could still see this move take place in January.
