Peter Grant has said that Celtic should consider signing free agent David de Gea as they look to find a successor for Joe Hart.

De Gea, a seasoned goalkeeper, has been out of professional football since his release from Manchester United last summer. Despite his hiatus, he has kept fit by training with a non-league side in England and has not announced any plans for retirement.
Speaking on Go Radio, Grant highlighted the unique opportunity Celtic presents, noting the allure of European football and the vibrant atmosphere of Celtic Park, which could be enticing for a player like De Gea.
He said on Go Radio, “I’ve got to throw one out there. I look at David de Gea, he’s been training non-league in England. And I’m thinking ‘there’s someone like David de Gea there, a club like Celtic, European football. Would that excite him?’
“Okay, it will cost you a few shillings. But if he’s not going to the likes of Saudi Arabia, because no doubt that’s where he’d get the most money. But if he’s taken a year out and all of a sudden wants to get back – big nights at Celtic Park, eight Champions League matches. Would that be something that excites him?
“But that’s somebody I’d be looking at. That’s the sort of personality you’re probably going to have to replace Joe Hart with.”
This suggestion comes as Celtic aims to fill the gap left by Joe Hart, seeking a goalkeeper with a strong personality and experience at the highest levels of football. Grant believes De Gea fits this profile perfectly and could be the kind of high-profile signing to seamlessly step into Hart’s shoes.
