Pundit Surprised By Celtic’s January Transfer Move

Pundit and former Celtic right-back Mark Wilson has expressed his surprise over the Hoops’ potential signing of Rapid Vienna wide-man Nicolas Kuhn. The German seems close to joining the Celts as their first January signing.

Wilson, however, thinks manager Brendan Rodgers has too many wingers available to him and adding another is nonsensical: “It’s not a position I thought was a priority”, he said (Clyde 1 Superscoreboard). “When I count the wingers just now, Abada, Yang, Maeda, Palma, Mikey Johnston, James Forrest…ok, some of them might be on the way out, but I didn’t think it would be Rodgers’ first signing (this month).”

Although Wilson didn’t assume Rodgers would be keen to bring in an attacking wide-man when one considers the fact Yang and Daizen Maeda will be unavailable for several games post-winter break and that injuries have plagued The Bhoys this season, it doesn’t seem too out of the ordinary.

In addition, Kuhn is an option of quality. Before joining, he has a better track record and career history than players such as Yang. Should he sign, he will go into the same category as the likes of Maeda and Luis Palma.

Some cannot make sense of his potential acquisition, but Kuhn appears to be a man Brendan Rodgers admires. None of the summer signings seemed to be that of the Irishman’s but when one considers the play style and record of the 24-year-old, he looks to be a Rodgers-type player.

This should encourage fans in the present and going into the remainder of the window as the Hoops aim to further strengthen their squad before a crucial title run-in.
