‘Pretty incredible’ – What Has Surprised Auston Trusty the Most Since Joining Celtic

Celtic central defender Auston Trusty has been blown away by the relentless, ‘locked-in’ mentality everyone shows at the club amid a hectic winter schedule.

The games keep coming thick and fast for the Hoops, with no mid-season break in Scotland this campaign.

Brendan Rodgers’ men have nine matches in January alone as the players take to the field every few days.

Centre half Trusty, who joined the Scottish Premiership champions for £6m from Sheffield United in the summer, has revealed how taken aback he has been by the mentality within the club during the current busy run.

He said (Celtic TV): “It’s not easy playing games every three days.

“Your body allows you to do it. When you’re with a group of guys who are all willing to do the same thing, grind and get results for the team and for each other, the three days pass like this and game after game after game.

“Again, it’s a credit to my teammates and also to coaching staff to keep everyone so locked in and fighting for a reason. It takes a lot of effort for all of us to be on the same page day after day and game after game. It’s pretty incredible.”

The American has come back into the Celtic team over the past few games after missing a period through a sickness bug.

Trusty was on the bench for games Motherwell, St. Johnstone, and Rangers but returned for Sunday’s 3-0 victory over St. Mirren.

The 26-year-old netted his first Celtic goal in the match, too, glancing home from close range after a typically teasing Arne Engels corner delivery.

It would appear Trusty has nailed down the first-choice spot alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers at the heart of the Celtic defence post-Ibrox.

One wouldn’t be surprised if Liam Scales was rotated back into the team for Saturday’s trip to Dingwall, although most fans appear much more confident in the US international’s abilities.
