Pot Four: Celtic’s Champions League Destiny

CELTIC know they’ll be in the Champions League come the beginning of September. However, we’re not sure what we’ll be up against when it comes to the draw itself.

There are no easy games at this level — it’s cliche, but absolutely accurate. The bhoys are in Pot 4 for the draw, a pot that still has five clubs to be confirmed.

Other pots in the competition have been populated ahead of time, Champions, and top four teams of many of the ‘big’ leagues have nestled into where they’re going to be.

Check out the pots below so far for a rundown of who Celtic could be facing.

Pot 1

Manchester City, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, AC Milan, PSG, Porto, Ajax

Pot 2

Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Tottenham, RB Leipzig

Pot 3

Borussia Dortmund, RB Salzburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter, Napoli, Sporting, Bayer Leverkusen, TBC

Pot 4

Marseille, Celtic, Club Brugge, TBC, TBC, TBC, TBC, TBC

It’s entirely possible Celtic are drawn against Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Dortmund! All glamour ties, but we’d be up against it from the off.

Even Ajax, Sevilla, Salzburg would be tough ties for the bhoys in green, albeit with less glamour attached to them.

There will be fans who want to see a group where there’s an outside chance we could do something in, others will want the big hitters to test this team to its limits.

It’s going to be a tough ask no matter what. Ange Postecoglou and his bhoys are set to face opposition of the highest calibre.

The nights under the lights at Celtic Park will be immense. We have to make the stadium as hostile as possible for travelling players. There was a time where we’d regularly beat the best in Europe thanks to the grit of the team and the roar from the crowd.

We’ve lost that somewhat in the past five years. The last game we remember a real toe to toe battle in the heat of Celtic Park was the Manchester City game where it ended 3-3 on the night. It was a special night, with a special atmosphere.
