Postecoglou’s Candid Reaction to Celtic’s Sunday Defeat

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has admitted his team selection for Celtic’s visit to St Mirren wasn’t right, as he reflects on his side’s humiliating defeat in Paisley on Sunday afternoon.

There were six changes from the side’s draw in Poland, with some forced dropouts. Cameron Carter-Vickers was unavailable after he pulled up in training midweek, and some players were in need of a rest.

We’ve been grateful for the improved squad depth in the past, but in hindsight, making six changes for the last match before the international break is a bit baffling. Even more so when some of those who dropped to the bench won’t be travelling away from Lennoxtown to join their countries in the coming days.

Live on Sky Sports, Ange Postecoglou admitted there were mistakes, from the players and from him, with the lineup not perfect.

“Team selection is on me so if I got that wrong then I got that wrong. It’s my responsibility.”

He continued;

“There wasn’t a lot that was hugely positive about today. Everything, including team selection, was probably not right. We’ve progressed a lot over the last 15 months but today was a reminder that we’ve still got work to do.”

This match should be used as a learning curve; we’re lucky that the team had opened up a five-point lead, so we had the cushion and now sit two points clear of second place heading into the first international break of the season.
