Former Celtic player Davie Provan believes Ange Postecoglou would have been sick after the Glasgow Derby defeat because of how close things were.

Provan tipped Celtic’s Glasgow rivals to win the game comfortably and in the end, it was fine margins that won the day.

Celtic have come a long way in a short space of time, something Provan acknowledges. The Sky Sports broadcaster believes the manager did play a part in the defeat. Provan doesn’t give a reason why but it’s likely to do with not playing Kyogo up front from the beginning – something Ange acknowledged after the game.

Writing in his SunSport column, Provan does give a lot of credit to Postecoglou and the ay he’s gone about his business:

Postecoglou will have been sick at the result and his own part in it.

But having matched Rangers on their own patch, he’ll know there’s nothing to fear from Gerrard’s side.

Those predicting another 25-point gap should be ignored. This title race will be no gimme for Gers.

Having tipped them to win the match, I was surprised it was so tight.

Given Celts’ problems at the back, I expected Gerrard’s team to win by a couple of goals.

With a capacity Ibrox crowd behind them, they had every advantage.

Instead, only an Edouard sitter, and a good Gers’ set-piece, separated the teams.

Given the tough hand he was dealt, Postecoglou has done well to lick Celts into decent shape.

The embarrassing pursuit of Eddie Howe left him behind the eight ball.

Celtic are in a decent place going into the next run of fixtures. The hard work really begins now and the team must ensure they’re still taking part in a title race come January.

Our away form will have to change. The Hoops haven’t won a league away game since February.
