Liam Scales returned to Celtic over the summer following a successful loan spell at Pittodrie in the 2022/23 season.
The Irish defender was a mainstay in the Aberdeen backline last year with his services helping the Dons to a third place finish in the league.
Initially following the end of his loan spell in the granite city, Aberdeen wanted to sign Scales immediately.
Celtic wanted to bring him back to Glasgow, so Brendan Rodgers could assess him ahead of the fresh campaign.

In pre-season up to this point, Scales has made a few appearances at the back. It remains to be seen whether or not he will be a part of Rodgers’ plans for 2023/24 but Aberdeen’s interest remains coherent, according to the Daily Record.
Former Celtic midfielder Barry Robson needs defensive reinforcements and Scales is an ideal candidate as he can provide cover at both left and centre back.
The Dons did want to sign the player permanently at the end of last season but Celtic were in search of an increase on the six figure fee they paid for Scales in 2021. A loan is now likely.
Needing to trim his squad, the departure of Scales would further help Rodgers fine tune his team. It would also free up wages and ensure the 24-year-old continues his improvement in the north-east.
