Postecoglou Opens up on Dermot Desmond Phone Call

DERMOT DESMOND was interviewed by Celtic TV a year after last season’s disaster. He admitted that mistakes were made, but the board has learned from them.

He also opened up on the manager hunt, crediting Peter Lawwell for bringing Ange Postecoglou to Celtic, admitting that he hadn’t heard of his name. The interview with Craig Foster was enough to seal the majority shareholder’s approval, he claims, saying he saw positive attitudes coming from the Aussie boss.

In today’s press conference, Ange was asked about Desmond’s interview. The manager then revealed that the owner bought into his footballing ideas early on, revealing the pair had a phone call after Celtic’s opening day defeat in the Capital. [Celtic TV]

“Dermot rang me after we lost against Hearts on the first day of the season.

“He said, ‘Ange, I can see what you’re trying to do. All I can say is that your first assessment will come at the end of the year. Nothing will happen before then. Just keep doing what you’re doing.’

“I don’t need people to tell me that, but I can’t do what I do without support.”

Throughout pre-season, Ange’s style became evident. He was still to get players in and settled on the season’s opening game.

Most fans knew it would bring success, but none expected to be favourites for a treble in the manager’s first season in Glasgow.
