The first piece of business of the Ange Postecoglou era is extending the contract of Anthony Ralston according to SunSport.

The defender has not been fancied at allot this point by any of his managers as a viable option for right-back. The defender’s last start coming in January during the Dubai debacle when players were forced to isolate.

Ralston is the only recognised right back at the club right now and Celtic might just be playing the numbers game.

Most Celtic fans don’t see the defender in the first team picture next season – some are confused by the move to retain Ralston, even if there are no other options at right back at the moment.

Celtic need to fill some major positions and quickly. Starting the season with a right back who Jonjoe Kenny kept out of the side is hardly ideal.

The defender could surprise in the coming weeks but there has to be investment in the right back area going forward.
