Postecoglou Insists Hoops Side Didn’t Miss Celtic Star In Frustrating Draw

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has insisted that his side didn’t miss Hoops striker Giorgos Giakoumakis during yesterday’s frustrating 0-0 draw against Hibernian.

The in-form Greek striker missed out on the trip to Edinburgh through illness, off the back of his hat-trick against Dundee at Celtic Park in the Hoops last league outing.

Despite the struggles in front of goal on Sunday, Postecoglou insisted that Giakoumakis wouldn’t have been a deciding factor in yesterday’s result, whilst also confirming that the 27-year old should be back for Wednesday’s fixture against St Mirren.

“I don’t think we missed him, but he should be okay,” he said as quoted by Glasgow Live.

“We are hoping he will be okay for Wednesday.

“It is just an illness, and he wasn’t right for today. With a bit of luck, he should be okay for Wednesday.

“Giorgios wasn’t going to make us play any better than we did today. We played well enough we just weren’t able to score a goal.”

Ultimately, it was a frustrating day for Ange Postecoglou and his side, who couldn’t break down the Hibs defence and came away with a draw in the capital.

I think Ange is correct with what he is saying, with regards to Giakoumakis, given the lack of chances Celtic created in the final third during the draw.

Giakoumakis will be looking to play himself back into the side if he makes a return on Wednesday night, in another crucial game for the Hoops in league action.
